As a chiropractor, I’m extremely selective about the workouts I recommend—and I’m happy to say I fully endorse The Strength Shoppe. I’ve now trained at all three of their locations (Echo Park, Pasadena, and Beverly Grove), and each experience has been excellent. The slow-motion, high-intensity strength training they offer is as safe as it is effective. It’s a controlled environment with a focus on proper form and technique, minimizing strain and injury risk.
I always tell my patients, ‘If more people did workouts like this, I’d be working a lot less!’ This training method builds strength without the usual wear and tear I see with traditional workouts. If you're serious about getting stronger in a way that supports, rather than stresses, your body, I highly recommend checking out The Strength Shoppe.

So excited for this new location!! I’ve been going to the one in Pasadena for 3 years now. I truly cannot believe how strong I am—I can haul things now that I found challenging 7 or 8 years ago. Menopause/Peri-menopause has been kicking my butt!! I was doing Pilates and a little yoga, but everything ended up aching. But getting back to the super slow/super heavy training I turned around. Last summer when I was 52 years old, I went backpacking with a 60 pound pack above 12,000 for 14 miles. I didn’t hike to train—but I did do my weekly Strength Shoppe: incredibly I wasn’t even sore!! Only 20-30 minutes once a week. My joints feel strong, my muscles are strong—I feel like I discovered a true health hack!!

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized how essential strength is—not only for fitness, but for everyday life and longevity. The Strength Shoppe has been a game-changer in this regard. Their slow-motion strength training method has helped me safely build muscle and improve my overall stability and energy levels, which I honestly feel every day.
I’ve come to appreciate that strength isn’t just about lifting heavier weights; it’s about keeping your body strong, resilient, and able to handle whatever life throws your way as you age. The trainers here are knowledgeable and attentive, and they make sure each session is as safe as it is challenging. I’m so grateful to have found The Strength Shoppe. This isn’t just another workout—it’s an investment in my future health, and I plan on sticking with it for years to come!

I started training at The Strength Shoppe in Echo Park and loved everything about it—the personalized approach, the quick but super-effective workouts, and the supportive team. They make it easy in every way. I was thrilled when they announced a Beverly Grove location. If you’re in the area and looking for an efficient, results-focused workout, check them out. The new studio keeps all the best things about Echo Park but makes it way more convenient for the west side! I’m thrilled that more people will get to experience this level of excellence while taking care of their health.

We had a terrific experience at Strength Shoppe and highly recommend them for anyone seeking first-class personal training. Basically, the idea of the workout is that you lift weights on machines very slowly under the close supervision and guidance of a professional trainer. Because of the slow speed, you are targeting muscle failure between 90 seconds and two minutes after you start lifting. Reaching muscle failure helps your body stimulate and maintain strength as your body is triggered to build more muscle as a results. It's high intensity, but you can get an amazing result from one or two sessions per week. As someone who is injury-prone, the super slow workout allowed me to push out of my comfort zone without worrying about a physical setback. Each of the trainers we've tried so far have been knowledgeable, encouraging, and specific about adjustments to improve the workout. We are hooked! 🙂

I entered the Strength Shoppe intent on increasing muscular strength and functional flexibility in order to not have to rely on AFO braces like so many other people with Cerebral Palsy are forced to do. The training protocol espoused by Melinda and her trainers has helped me gradually increase my bone density and has done wonders for my sense of balance. They are all very knowledgeable and each have very nurturing personalities. Many personal trainers are more like drill sergeants and can be very intimidating. That's nowhere to be found at The Strength Shoppe. You could say that they are more like gurus encouraging clients to communicate with their bodies, thereby increasing their kinesthetic awareness. The layout of the machines allows clients to move swiftly from one machine to another with very little rest which adds to the intensity of workout that are already quite brief, yet effective. Progress is monitored using charts and it is commonplace for clients to get stronger and stronger with each workout without having to worry about hitting a plateau. I encourage anyone wanting to get healthy to come and give The Strength Shoppe a try. They are worth every second!

I’ve been a customer for almost 10 years now and I was looking for a good workout that wasn’t prone to injuries and this was it!

I’m not your usual Gym guy, going from machine to machine trying to look sexy while checking out hard bods around. I wanted a relaxing and private experience where I can be comfortable and have professional guidance.

It’s not easy to be disciplined to go each week to a regular gym so The Strength Shoppe was so much better as you’ll set appointments each week and I was encouraged to go and keep the routine which was perfect.

The staff are great, the workout is excellent and the environment created at the Strength Shoppe is ideal and in less than half an hour I can feel the effects without feeling beaten up or in pain. I would drive to Pasadena from WeHo each week for this and it became an important routine to keep a healthy balanced lifestyle. Now that a new Shoppe is opening up in WeHo, it’ll even be easier to “keep up the good work”.

If you want good strength training is less than half an hour that you only have to do once or maybe twice a week, that also doesn’t exhaust you, is safe to do and very manageable for us all, then The Strength Shoppe is where you should join.

If you’re looking for a trainer who will make you regret every French fry you’ve ever eaten, look no further than Melinda at The Strength Shoppe. She’s hands-down the best. Not only does she know her stuff, but she somehow convinces you that slow-motion strength training is fun—even when your muscles are screaming otherwise.
Melinda somehow manages to be friendly and motivational, while also secretly plotting to make you feel the burn for days. Seriously, if you want a workout that will keep you coming back for more (even though your legs will beg you not to), Melinda is your woman. Prepare to get stronger, feel amazing, and maybe develop a slight love-hate relationship with the leg press. You’re welcome!
