I worked with Dr. Siegel in the context of a divorce where my ex suffered from an extraordinary level of anxiety that made co-parenting difficult. Dr. Siegel is a nice person, albeit a bit scattered (usually running late, hard to schedule, needing to take the dog for a walk in the middle of a session, etc). She proved incapable of driving us to conclusion on simple matters such as establishing a reasonable vacation schedule, allowing each parent to have their own babysitter, or preventing my ex from calling the police or threatening court actions over the most absurd minor matters. She and her mentor Michelle Franklin clearly favor an approach that coddles high anxiety individuals over extended periods of time, rather than helping them reach a conclusion. My 10-12 sessions with Dr. Siegel turned out to be a waste of time and money. I was surprised to learn that the Santa Cruz court system is actually a far fairer and efficient system. My seven year old daughter also found her 2-3 individual sessions with Dr. Siegel just as meandering and inconclusive. Dr. Siegel does offer to review emails between high conflict individuals which initially I found really appealing, but it turned out she is so busy that her reviews are pretty cursory and the feedback is superficial. She may be a great therapist for older kids, but she was underwhelming as a co-parenting therapist.
