I have had the best experience at the First Step Counseling. I have seen two therapists and they were both great therapists. My first encounter was with the office was Inez. Her efficiency and the manner in which she spoke with me were very impressive. After I talked to Inez several times and saw how patiently she was listening to my changing needs and how willing she was to make me comfortable I knew I had found a good place for all my needs and those of my family's.

This is a poorly managed organization. The scheduling staff are horrible and their lack of urgency shows they really don’t care about someone’s struggle and mental state. Liz is a prime example of the inadequacy of this organization. I had issues with scheduling that I brought to her attention. All she could do is complain about the issues they are experiencing with insurance companies. Promises of “call backs” were empty. Months later, zero communication. If you or someone you care about is struggling with mental health, please DO NOT rely on 1st Counseling for any level of assistance.

A longtime friend of mine went through an extremely difficult time and eventually made the decision to seek counseling at First Step Counseling. What sets apart a great therapist from a bad therapist goes beyond years of experience. It is about being consistent and having a genuine interest in the health, comfort, and overall benefit of the client. First step counseling is one of the nicest cleanest therapy office i've visited in San Pedro. The therapists are extremely professional and actually care about their patients. I also like the fact that there are many therapists to choose from, with a wide range of different specialities. I highly recommend first step and I am so happy that I found them.
