This experience was so revealing, I felt so empowered and rejuvenated, after our session, that I forgot about my anxiety for my 2 pm dental appointment!

I had an extremely disappointing session with Dr. Susan. During our session, she said the N-word, and validated harmful stereotypes and racist perspectives. Additionally, she asked irrelevant questions. After addressing the issues of homophobia and despite knowing I’m in a straight relationship, she asked if I’m considering being gay since she didn’t know why I cared about LGBTQ+. When I expressed sadness, instead of offering support, she just said she does not understand why I was crying, which made me feel invalidated and unheard. I feel as if she should’ve helped me cope instead of questioning me. It would have been much better to utilize that time to help me cope instead of asking me questions to try to understand where I’m emotionally coming from. This one session was unprofessional and that is the last thing you’d expect from someone with a PhD.
