Reviews of Counseling & Consulting Associates of North Texas

Haven’t been a patient in years but felt the need to review my experience. 5 stars for Tiffany Gainer; I loved her and although I felt therapy didn’t help much, I think I just wasn’t in the right place to be able to make the most of her help. She was very kind and always nice. I also really love the way she talked for some reason. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I had one online session with another therapist there (her name escapes me). I was diagnosed with PTSD and was encouraged to make an appointment with someone that specialized in that, so I made an appointment with another therapist at the CCA who supposedly focused on PTSD. Years later and I am still upset by the interaction. She tried to get me to list good things about me being abused and trusting someone that turned out to ruin my life, and I felt so triggered and invalidated. When I told here there WAS nothing good about it, she wouldn’t take it as an answer and continued to urge me to list something good. Not only that, but she had her dog with her in her office during our session, which I did not mind; but mid session she proceeded to leave her office to take her dog to the bathroom outside. I felt it was so unprofessional and rude; having her bring her phone along and barely listen like she was FaceTiming with an annoying family member. Felt so awful you could not even pay me to see her again.

I debated leaving this review for weeks, but after what happened today, I find it necessary, so other parents do not have to go through what we have had to. We were in desperate need to find a therapist for our teenage daughter as soon as possible when we reached out to CCA for help. They were able to get us (the parents) in the very next day (Wednesday) and our daughter two days later (Friday). In the parent meeting, we expressed how important it was to us and our daughter that she be able to be seen once a week. There is no inkling that it would be an issue at all. When checking out after the meeting with our daughter, we were informed that our therapist, Christie Roe, had an appointment available the following week but would not have anything available after that for almost TWO months. My daughter seemed to really like Christie, so I was hesitant but chose to schedule the following week and try to schedule as many appointments as possible after the 8-week wait(this was optional up to end of 2024). After the weekend passed, I was called that following Monday and was informed that my daughter's appointment scheduled that week was an accident and would need to be moved, but they did not have anything available and would call me as soon as something opened. I was also told the same thing when I expressed that I did not want to wait eight weeks for her third appointment. No phone calls ever came; we even emailed the therapist directly about some concerns we were having with our daughter and the canceled appointment; it took multiple emails from us and over a week before Christie even responded to us. Fast forward to today, the date of her second appointment. Reminder: Her first one was August 29th, and we are now on the day of her SECOND appointment, October 21st; the office called us 40 minutes before her scheduled appointment to cancel her appointment. No offer to reschedule because "they can't do that right now." Remember that we would have been charged a cancelation fee if the roles had been reversed. I canceled all our appointments right then and there, and we have now started the process over. I do understand that circumstances arise, and that Christie is human, just like the rest of us. However, I do not understand why there was never a resolution for the appointments she canceled twice. Squeeze us in, schedule a video call, or move us to the top of the list for cancelations. I find it hard to believe that no cancelations came through in that 8-week waiting period. If your child's mental health is a priority to you, this place is not it. I am not sure why they would make anyone who is just seeking help go through any of this, let alone a child. Part of me feels they are running some insurance fraud scheme, as intake sessions are paid more by insurance companies than follow-up sessions. Please do yourself and your tiny human favor and take them to a place that genuinely cares about their patient's well-being because this place is not it. I truly feel bad for their support staff, who must handle all the blowback from these situations. I can’t speak about any of the other doctors, therapist or councilors that work here, but Christie has zero right accepting in new patients if she has space on her schedule for them. I hope and pray this was a one-off situation and is not something that occurs on daily basis.

I reached out after doing a google search, and left a voicemail. Received a message back, and upon me calling back I was greeted by the WORST receptionist. Imagine seeking therapeutic services for your child, and being vulnerable only to speak to someone at a practice designed to help you, only for them to degrade you even further.
I’m unsure of the female’s name but she stated “did you even look at the website “ “well what other questions could you possibly have if you looked at the site” “do you even have insurance”. It took a lot for me to maintain my composure, but I simply hate that this encounter has ruined me from searching for further assistance at this time.
Please remember that the initial tone and the words used can completely ruin a person’s outlook on the entire practice. I understand we’re all busy, but our attitude impact’s others especially in settings like this one.

My wife has been a client interested in any/all resources and related therapies and the importance of her overall mental health Improving. JEFF McManus has been absolutely monumental in the healing process of her mental well-being and stability. 5 years strong with this facility, and because of his/their unwavering help and understanding, his insistence to allow her to co-pilot, allowed her to gain her true independence and confidence. IN making decisions- they've always allowed her to flourish. These huge strides have improved every single aspect of and role in our lives today. I have my beautiful wife and our children have And amazing mother. She now has substantial recovery and she continues to grow and heal navigating her recovery journey. She could and will attest,- "Absolutely none of this , would have been possible with out the very hands and hearts of the staff at CCA and especially Nurse Practioner,Jeff McManus."

I don't know what the therapists are like, because I couldn't get through the front door. Absolutely worst front office staff. Didn't write down or document information properly, called me and left voicemails with info for different patients, didn't actually put in my appointment, and seemingly had no knowledge of my name when I called to inquire. If anyone is in a desperate situation, and need help urgently or smoothly, this is not the place for you.

I highly recommend Messay Oshe if you are looking for a psychiatrist. He is wonderful and caring. The office staff is also very kind.

Today is October 21, 2023, my last appointment was September 14th. Dr. Elise Griffin has been negligent in submitting my refill since that appointment, ever after 20 emails and 5 calls to the office. It’s ridiculous!
Avoid this place unless you want to be put on medication, then left to deal with the side effects of just never getting another refill.

Seeking mental health specialists is not always easy. Fortunately for us, Stephanie W. was recommended to us. Since then, we have seen Dr. C and Tiffany also. We have been very happy with their care and knowledge and getting our child in a good place. Jason and all the office staff are also helpful and pleasant when calling in or coming in.
