Lovely primitive Campground. The Campground was clean with beautiful views. There is zero cell phone reception for miles, and a creek came right past our campsite. Lots of bugs in the summer but they didn't really bother us. Only vault toilets and no water on site. Each campground has a picnic table and fire ring with a grill grate. The nearby hike to Cooper Canyon Falls was really nice. There are bluejays and squirrels and we saw a quail on the hike. I will definitely be returning here for quiet weekend camping.

Directions are wrong and take you on uncomfortable forest roads.
Use detour:
1. Start on Angeles Forest Highway
2. Turn on Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Rd
3. Turn left on Angeles Crest Scenic Byway (Highway 2)

It's only a 45 minute drive from where I live and about an hour from Glendale CA, I've been camping there since 1985 it's a first-come first-serve there is no reservation so leave early to get a campground there are hiking trails there is a waterfall that you can hike down to, I've also mountain bike the trails. All in all Buckhorn is one of my most favorite campgrounds in the Angeles national Forest, it's a dog friendly area as long as they're on a leash.

Great site. Very peaceful, a little noisy near night fall. Warm in the day cold at night. Most people kept to themselves! Best time for us to go was Tuesday through Thursday. Water was nice tasting too! Might be a bit buggy for some. Bees love to eat off your plate. And the squirrels are fun to watch. Bring lots of fire wood as the area seems cleaned out.

Is pretty chilled place to camp. If you're frighten of bears that's a good place to camp since bear activity is rare. The animal you see the most is coyotes but they live you alone. I had a great experience! ? ☺️

Last year in November, the weekend before this campground was closed for the winter, we had a 2 night stay here, at site #8.

We absolutely fell in love with it. We have a seven-year-old who enjoyed it so much as well. It was really cold at night (high 30s) and cold during the day (50s), but as long as you are prepared, it's lovely.

Because it is only an hour and a half away from us, we decided to go back the last week of June for 4 nights. We looked around again and settled on site #9 this time.

While we did enjoy our stay, the abundance of mosquitoes bothered us despite repellent spray and citronella candles.

Definitely a better camping experience in the fall/winter season. Also, as a general information: the sites 7, 8, 9 and 10 are great as they are big and somewhat secluded with enough trees to provide shade. The last 3 sites (36, 37, 38) are supposed to be great too as they are secluded and shady as well.

Beautiful forest campground amongst Jeffrey and sugar pines. We liked site #7 since it had a lot of space, was near a water spigot, and had a small creek next to us. The campground was nearly empty on Monday so try to visit during the week if you can. I hear it gets busy on weekends. There were lots of flies and mosquitoes. Otherwise a great campground and location for only $12/night.
