I have ridden bikes predominantly off road and some on for 42 years, i highly believe in learning new methods, techniques, and abilities. i have a 2004 KTM 950 S, awesome bike for adventure riding and a whole lot more, LOVE pushing it, amazing bike, and heavy !! i like to go fast in the dirt, and quickly discovered a bike close to 500 pounds acts a whole lot different than even a XR650R.
Going into the class i struggled on tecniques that required super slow speed on the big KTM mainly turns, i mean real slow, so i would just blast around all over the place. i got the opportunity to take the A.R.T.S. class ( advanced rider technique and skills ) i talked to Del on the phone and he confirmed i would be learning a ton of VERY slow techniques. i learned a tremendous amount of skills, from clutch control, body position, to hoping over a small "log", ruts, starting and stopping on hills, skids with direction change and, a S*** ton of super slow turns and figure 8's. i mean TIGHT turns so slow you have brief stops and the need of balance as your turning.
Del and Michael were Awesome, they knew EXACTLY what to say, they new that a whole lot of yapping doesn't teach, we had to just go out do it to learn it (there is a lot you just cant talk through a rider just has to do it successfully ), it was a PERFECT example of teaching, a brief description of the technique, a ridden example by one of them, then we would go out and do it. we rode a lot which made learning the skills so much more successful.
I was truly amazed the amount i learned in super slow speed maneuvers, balance, and body position. remember i have rode a lot of dirt in my life, i am teachable, and i do think i am a pretty good rider in the dirt !!, but what i learned over the weekend upped my skill level 10 fold on the big adventure bike and is invaluable !!
I HIGHLY recommend these classes from the basics all the way through the ARTS level 1&2 Del and Michael are great teachers with a tremendous amount of knowledge, they build confidence and KNOW there students skill level, they are also VERY aware were riding big adventure bikes and teach appropriately.
thank you guys i will be back !! loved successfully skidding and hooking the rear of the big girl 90 degree into almost a dead stop and taking off without touching the ground, and the figure 8's in a space a bit bigger than my garage !! O, and the body (riding) position in all the different scenarios, priceless !! I have conquered the beast !!

I've been riding my adventure bike for almost a year now including a few hundred miles on dirt but I never felt fully comfortable on my 500 lb. beast so I decided to take a basic course from Black Swan. After taking the basic class January 2019 at Prairie City I feel 100% more confident on my bike. Just learning the basics of clutch control and proper body position for me changed how I use my machine through various situations whether it's deep sand, hill climbs, or slow speed u-turns. Slow speed control was always my trouble spot and attributed to all my drops. The drills I learned and practiced in this class really improved my skills in this area and are skills I now apply even on the road. The skills I took from this two day class are skllls that I will practice for the rest of my riding days. Thanks, Mike and Del, for teaching me some great motorcycle skills and making my favorite sport even more enjoyable.

Hi, re: BlackSwan Moto experience. I just attended October 6-7 2018, one of the regular classes now being offered in Northern California at Prairie City off-road park near Folsom Calif. This was the 3rd class for me. I have gained a lot of confidence from the classes. Some of the exercises have been a real challenge for me as an older rider, however i have almost always been able to succeed with the trainer's input. I also get a lot of practice ideas...which is the real key to skill development.
Del, Mike, Hawk and Jeff are top-notch instructors.
Its really valuable to have this opportunity in N California! I hope the riding community will continue and support this great group of guys. We attendees also hope to develop more of a community of riders who have done this training and wish to get together and apply these skills.
If you want to build confidence, learn the right way to do things and enjoy your riding experience on those big adventure bikes...I highly recommend supporting/attending BlackSwan Moto Training. Mike J.

Just completed level one of blacks one training.
This is not a cookie cutter Adventure riding bootcamp. Michael the owner/instructor teaches the how’s and why’s of Adventure riding skills, basically connecting the dots in riding skills so that it makes sense and becomes instinctive with practice. After my Black Swan level 1 training.. have I conquered my nemesis.. deep sand.. no.. but we are now friends.. looking forward to Black Swan level 2..

I attended the Adventure Rider BASICS Training in Prairie City and loved it. It's a great combination of theory and practical exercise, advice, and riding around. I'm really glad I took the training as I now understand what I need and want to improve with my riding skills.
