Basing this review on the memories made as a grade school camper on annual camping trip from Eureka. Fourth grade was a trip to San Francisco, which was supremely cool, but fifth grade trip to Ravencliff was much more down to earth and healthy. Thanks for hosting us year after year! From your 40-something nature lover.

Great memories!
I was a camper in '64,
a Jr. Leader in '66 and a Leader in '69.
Red Ragger!
In July '69 we all gathered in the Lodge to
watch the moon landing. It was the only T. V. anyone watched for the whole 2 weeks.
I'm 71 now & often think fondly of this place.

This is the place where I discovered my love of nature, my first independence from home, camaraderie with others. We had great camp counselors who made every day fun and educational. I can still smell the morning air and the wonder of a sixth grader with a lifetime ahead. Never have forgotten the impact of Ravens wood.:)

I remember spending time here when I was a kid. I'm 49 now and still have vague memories of having fun here. The name just popped into my head and had to look it up. Learned a lot here, my parents got a small vacation while I was gone, and I met lots of friends and we had lots of fun.

Very fun and I made lots of memories there. But it just happens to be located directly next to a sewage treatment plant. It smelled like poop 24/7 all week long. Also a 20 minute walk from the eel River prison Which isn’t very safe .

I went to Ravencliff in 1975,1976,1977,1978. I had a very good time there. I would ask my mom to book me 2 weeks each summer. Made a lot of friends. I loved swimming in the south fork river. We used to jump off the cliff on the other side of the river. We use to jump from the highest part of the cliff to show off to the girls, it was 25 feet high. I bet they wouldn’t allow it today. They had a speaker horn on the main building and would blast rock music and fun music like monster mash music while swimming. When done swimming you would go to the water Fountain and drink the ice cold fresh spring water from the well. The food back then was good coming out of the old kitchen, especially breakfast every morning, all you can eat with hot chocolate, milk or kool-Aid.
After dinner you would clean up for the night and after we would all go to the camp fire pit and sing. There was always someone playing guitar.
The counselors would tell spooky stories and by then it was dark. Great times!
Friends and I went up two times to help build new cabins and maintenance for YMCA in the spring 1979-1980 before camp open. Those cabins are probably still there.

Great memories of my summer there in 1962. Even the bus ride from the Richmond YMCA was a blast.
I attended because my father also had attended Camp Ravencliff in 1940. No tennis courts or lawn, and no swimming pool, we swam in the river, even had swim lessons in the river. It was all outdoor activities, swimming, hiking, archery, crafts, even had a rifle range where with parent permission we could shoot 22’s to qualify for a Jr Marksman badge. Times change. The camp session concluded with a 26 mile hike to the ocean and camping out for a night or two on the beach.

It was a really great camp I went in 2015,16,17, and 18. I was so sad when they were no longer having it in 2019. While sometimes the counselors seemed a bit overwhelmed, the cits were the best. They were always super helpful and hung out with a bunch of 10-12 year olds even though they probably didn’t want to. Shibby and Disney were great camp leaders!
