After a year of commitment and scoring well in school I was recently forced out of the Inside apprenticeship by the recently elected hot-shot Training Director so I figured I’d list my grievances here for future applicants to consider.

1. Many JW (wiremen) in the field are hot heads and don’t make good teachers. If you don’t kiss butt and take disrespect it may very likely come back to bite you hard. The chances of a JW taking the time to school you on how to do everything is slim. If you are totally inexperienced like I was you may get told that you “stand around too much” by the people who are supposed to be teaching you the trade.

2. Safety is not always taken seriously. There are lots of instances of this but the worst was when I had a job assignment where lockout/tagout was being ignored. I brought up my concerns to the general foreman one single time and he ended up telling the training director that I was “confrontational” and it ended up being used against me as if I was in the wrong for asking for a lock on the circuit I was working on as a FIRST YEAR APPRENTICE.

3. Nepotism. There are some apprentices who get handed cushy positions right off the bat because of family and friend ties they had prior to getting in. This is especially apparent when work is slow.

In closing I have to say that it’s pretty cringe to get forced out of a program I committed a year of my life to because a group of people that I’ve never worked one-on-one with think I’m not right for the program.

Very helpful staff, helping their current students/apprentices and potential ones as well. Met the director, friendly and interested in the students and his program with equal passion. A great place to start a new career. The entire nation is crying for tradespeople. If you have a good work ethic and math and technical ability, you would have a great life and career as a union electrician

This is an indirect review. I told my 26 y/o son applied for the apprentice program in Nov and soon after he received the invitation say he met the minimum requirements and a scheduled date to take the aptitude test. It's been a positive experience for him so far. He has an AS degree but i did encourage him to be an electrician and I know he will thanks me later

They never provided me an appointment after many times of requesting through emails, phones, also in in person twice, Basil seems too busy for that and no one else can substitute him , I gave up on joining them.

Great sound and communication program. Hear it's better now. Screw college.....make money while you learn and not have to pay tuition!!!
