Working with Alice was a wonderful experience!

While I was brainstorming ideas for my essays, she always asked good questions that helped me dig deeper into the topics I wanted to write about. Her questions were very on point and allowed me to reflect on my experiences from new perspectives, which helped me make my essays more meaningful.

Alice is also a brilliant editor. For me, one of the major difficulties in college essays was the word limit. It's hard to convey complex ideas in only a few hundred (or even in just one hundred) words. Alice has a sharp sense of what parts of my writing are necessary and add to the theme, and what parts are filler that should be cut out to give the story a harder punch. She really opened my eyes to the utility of words. I know I'll use the writing skills she taught me in college and beyond.

Alice is also super respectful and friendly. I feel like she tried to get to know me as a person, which made me more comfortable writing and editing essays about personal topics. She is honest in her feedback but also kind. There was a time when I got into a writer’s block and was stressed, but Alice was patient and helped me work through it.

Working with Alice helped me break down the brutal college application process into a manageable workload through her realistic and positive approach. She taught me how to clearly articulate my own self worth, and to uniquely articulate my talents. Alice also presented an extremely organized and methodical approach, and was always on top of our itinerary. Every session with her brought me new insights to my essays, but at the same time she's absolutely amazing at cutting down unnecessary words. It never felt like Alice was pressuring me to write a certain way or to choose a particular topic, and she always respected my opinion and left the final choice up to me. She also truly made an effort to connect with me in order to fully learn my story and my character in order to craft the best possible application with me. With her guidance, I've become a more reflective writer, and I've taken away literary skills I'll be using in college, graduate school and beyond. Alice is AMAZING! I came to Alice having already applied for a few summer programs but not really understanding what applying for college would look like. She helped me learn how to organize my writing in a way that was engaging, easy to read, and contained all the little things admissions officers look for. It was really helpful to talk to someone that knew so much about admissions and what they were looking for. Knowing she was helping me put forth the best application I could was extremely reassuring. Alice was super attentive to all my questions, concerns and goals all throughout working with her. She was honest and straightforward while always communicating in an uplifting way. She was crucial in my application process because she provided an objective third perspective, much like ones that admission officers are likely to have. As a result, she dug up stories/narratives I wouldn't have ever written about on my own!

I've learned to write effectively during my time working with her, and these skills have already permeated into other spheres of life (school, internships etc.).
